COPASLIP is a product designed specifically for protection against sticking or binding of structural joints located in extreme temperature and pressure conditions. It also protects against rusting, oxidation and corrosion. Protection against stiffening of joints results in a reduction in the cost of service work in cases of occasional maintenance or disassembly. COPASLIP contains microparticles of copper and finely dispersed lead in metallic form embedded in an infusible "bentonite" petroleum jelly base. In an alternative, lead-free product, the lead particles are replaced by an artificial lubricant - polybutene.
Copper and lead are basic elements that prevent sticking and "baking". Highly effective inhibitors are added to them, preventing oxidation and corrosion. The copper and lead form a matrix that fills the small irregularities of the surfaces on which COPASLIP is applied. This matrix never hardens, dissolves, and is not disturbed by vibration, contraction, or expansion.
In practice, copper does the honing of surfaces, while lead fills the pores in the metal and creates a solid plating. This phenomenon eliminates bonding of materials in extreme surface pressures.
